Objectives of Study:

To clarify the intervention effects of intermittent hypoxia training alone or in combination with time-restricted feeding on the overall metabolic health and cognitive health of obese college students, and to preliminarily explore the underlying "metabolic-cognitive" regulatory mechanism, in order to provide innovative and comprehensive non-pharmacological intervention strategies for the comprehensive management of obesity.

Inclusion criteria

排除标准:

年龄不符或BMI<24;患有心、肺、肝、肾等基础疾病或运动禁忌症;近3个月体重波动≥5%或参加过类似干预研究;服用影响代谢或体重的药物;存在规律运动习惯或特殊饮食模式;有酗酒、药物滥用史或幽闭恐惧症;认知障碍或无法配合完成研究者。

Exclusion criteria:

The exclusion criteria for this study include: age outside the specified range or BMI <24; presence of cardiovascular, pulmonary, hepatic, or renal diseases or exercise contraindications; weight fluctuation >=5% within the past 3 months or participation in similar intervention studies; current use of medications affecting metabolism or body weight; regular exercise habits or special dietary patterns; history of alcohol or drug abuse, or claustrophobia; pregnant or lactating women; cognitive impairment or inability to complete the study requirements.

Intervention:

The adopted dietary plan is based on the 16:8 eating principle. For example, (from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.) one can eat freely, while the remaining 16 hours are fasting periods. During the fasting period, participants are allowed to drink plain water, weak tea, coffee, and calorie-free beverages. The daily compliance log is used to measure the compliance with the 8-hour eating window. This log records the start and end times of eating for each subject every day. If the log shows that the subject eats within the 8-hour window (10:00 to 18:00 h), then that day is marked as "compliance". If the log indicates that the subject eats outside the 8-hour eating window, then that day is marked as "non-compliance". The compliance with the time-limited eating is evaluated as the number of compliant days per week.

该组受试者仅参与间歇性低氧训练,不进行饮食控制。训练安排为每周3次、每次约48-64分钟(含热身与整理),在模拟海拔2500-3000米(氧浓度13.7%–14.7%)的低氧环境下(佩戴低氧面罩)进行自行车运动。具体方案为:5分钟低氧运动(目标血氧饱和度降至80%–85%)+ 3分钟常氧恢复(血氧回升至≥95%)为一个循环,共完成6-8个循环;采用KEISER品牌自行车,强度控制在中低强度(3-4档、65-75转频、60-80w功率输出),心率维持在120-150次/分。饮食方面保持日常习惯不变

Intervention:

This group of subjects only participated in intermittent hypoxia training without dietary control. The training schedule was three sessions per week, each lasting approximately 48-64 minutes (including warm-up and cool-down), conducted in a hypoxic environment at an altitude of 2500-3000 meters (with an oxygen concentration of 13.7%-14.7%) (wearing a hypoxic mask). The specific plan was: 5 minutes of hypoxic exercise (target blood oxygen saturation reduced to 80%-85%) + 3 minutes of normoxic recovery (blood oxygen returning to ≥95%) as one cycle, with a total of 6-8 cycles completed; using a KEISER brand bicycle, the intensity was controlled at moderate to low levels (3-4 gears, 65-75 rpm, 60-80w power output), and the heart rate was maintained at 120-150 beats per minute. In terms of diet, daily habits remained unchanged.

Intervention:

The training schedule is three times a week, each session lasting approximately 50-60 minutes (including warm-up and cool-down). We use bicycles of the KEISER brand. The intensity is controlled at moderate to low levels (3-4 gears, 65-75 rpm, 60-80w power output), with heart rate maintained at 120-150 beats per minute. Regarding diet, we maintain our usual habits unchanged.

随机序列产生方法:采用区组随机化(block randomization)方法,区组长度设定为6(即每个区组包含6名受试者,确保6个实验组在每个区组内各分配1名受试者)。由一名不参与受试者招募、评估及干预实施的独立统计师,使用SAS 9.4软件PROC PLAN过程生成随机序列,设定种子数(seed)为20240326,按1:1:1:1:1:1的比例将受试者分配至上述6个实验组。随机序列生成后密封保存,由专人保管。

Random sequence generation method: The block randomization method was used. The block length was set at 6 (i.e., each block contained 6 subjects, ensuring that each of the 6 experimental groups was allocated 1 subject in each block). An independent statistician, who was not involved in subject recruitment, assessment, and intervention implementation, used the SAS 9.4 software PROC PLAN process to generate the random sequence, setting the seed number (seed) as 20240326, and allocating the subjects to the above 6 experimental groups in a 1:1:1:1:1:1 ratio. The random sequence was sealed and stored, and was kept by a designated person.
