Improved self-compassion levels among students, reduced stigma of mental illness, enhanced social support from teachers and peers in the school environment, and increased sense of school belonging.

Objectives of Study:

Improved self-compassion levels among students, reduced stigma of mental illness, enhanced social support from teachers and peers in the school environment, and increased sense of school belonging.

药物成份或治疗方案详述:

The "Co-creating Healing Schools" project adopts a strengths-based approach, allowing secondary school students at risk of mental health issues to co-create a space in their school, fostering positive mental health among their peers, teachers, and school administrators. Unlike existing programs that often view students as service users and "problems to be solved," our participants will receive professional assistance to co-design a space in their school to promote positive mental health. The proposed plan is not just about holding a series of workshops but focuses on changing the school environment and utilizing school resources to build positive mental health for all key stakeholders in the school. According to ecosystem theory, improving the external environment is the first step in promoting positive mental health. The proposed plan also adopts a "train-the-trainer" approach, focusing on nurturing existing student participants to become peer leaders and lead subsequent design thinking workshops. This ensures the sustainability of the project and enables students to self-manage their mental health.

We embraced the co-production approach throughout the program conceptualization, design and delivery. During the initial program conceptualization stage, we collaborated with a local non-profit organization, which was known for its extensive knowledge in frontline youth practices, to co-design the framework of Healing Space. At the program design stage, we engaged school management and teachers to discuss each session, ensuring Healing Space met the specific needs of individual schools and their students. Students were actively involved at the program delivery stage. Student participants were categorized into two groups based on their level of program engagement: (1) Students who directly participated in the co-production workshop (Co-producers) and (2) Students who did not directly participate in the program (Users only). Co-producers attended a total of six training workshops, which were co-delivered by registered social workers and the research team. The workshops started with a professional-led approach which slowly progressed into peer-led. The service-users group join the program as participants of the mental-health related interactive installations designed and delivered by their peer co-producers.

数据采集和管理(说明:数据采集和管理由两部分组成,一为病例记录表(Case Record Form, CRF),二为电子采集和管理系统(Electronic Data Capture, EDC),如ResMan即为一种基于互联网的EDC:

During the research, all the questionnaires will be processed anonymously, and the research team will give an identifier to each questionnaire for follow up purpose. The focus group interview will be audio taped. Participants may refuse to be audio taped at any time during the interview. Participants can listen to the recording upon the completion of the interview. All personal information and data collected in digital format and audio recordings will be stored in a shared drive of the The Hong Kong Polytechnic University which is encrypted. Only members of the research team will have access to the information. All members of the research team were required to sign a confidential agreement, meaning that they will not disclose any personal information of the participants to people out of the research team. All data including the hard and soft copies of questionnaires, voice recordings and transcripts will be destroyed within 6 months upon completion of the study.
