该研究的目的是考察急性和慢性硝酸盐补充（来自甜菜根）对老年人的情绪、运动功能和心血管反应的影响。  

Objectives of Study：

The aim of the study was to examine the effects of acute and chronic nitrate supplementation (from beetroot) on mood, exercise function, and cardiovascular responses in older adults.

纳入标准：

1. 年龄在50至70岁之间
2. 目前没有服用血压药物
3. 不吸烟的人
4. 目前没有使用硝酸盐类膳食补充剂
5. 不是训练有素的/精英运动员（定义为每周完成>4次训练，或>6小时的激烈运动锻炼，或为国家或年龄相当的运动队效力）。
6. 没有已知疾病（如痴呆症和心血管疾病）的人

Inclusion criteria

1. Between the age of 50 to 70y
2. Not currently taking blood pressure medication
3. Non tobacco smokers
4. Not currently using nitrate-based dietary supplements
5. Not a well-trained/elite athlete (defined as those completing >4 training sessions per week, or >6 h of intense
exercise per week, or playing for a national or age-equivalent sports team).
6. Those without known diseases (e.g., dementia and cardiovascular disease)

排除标准：

1. 年龄在50岁以下或70岁以上
2. 正在服用降压药
3. 目前吸食烟草的人
4. 目前正在服用硝酸盐类的膳食补充剂
5. 训练有素的/精英运动员（定义为每周完成>4次训练，或每周>6小时的高强度运动。或为国家队或年龄相当的运动队效力）。

2. Taking blood pressure medication
3. Current tobacco smokers
4. Current taking nitrate-based dietary supplements
5. Well-trained/ elite athlete (defined as those completing >4 training sessions per week, or >6 h of intense exercise per
week, or playing for a national or age-equivalent sports team).
6. With known diseases (e.g., dementia and cardiovascular disease)

受试者将会按照1:1的分组(随机数字生成器)随机分配到对照组或是干预组, 第三位研究人员将在受试者完成实验室预评估后对每个受试者进行随机分配。受试者和研究人员都不知道小组的分配情况。

Participants will be randomized 1:1 to beetroot juice group or control group using a random number generator. A third researcher will perform the randomization of each participant after completed laboratory pre-assessments. Neither the participants nor the study researchers know the group allocation.
