Objectives of Study:

Recent studies have applied the VR simulator in surgical training, but this paper aims to promote a new approach consisting of a sharing and independent-study platform for medical student education. This study compared traditional tendon repair training and VR simulation of tendon repair and evaluated future applications of VR simulation in the medical academic field.

药物成份或治疗方案详述:

Description for medicine or protocol of treatment in detail:

1. Subjects in VR and the control group need to participate in a two-week full 8-hour lecture and 6-hour practical class. Both groups were told that they would be checked in two weeks. The control group did not interfere with other human factors. 2. Students are required to study all courses on the website, including the basic theories and basic knowledge of tendon diagnosis and treatment through lecture videos and slides. In addition, using the VR simulator to perform the actual research part of tendon repair, each step of each step is performed separately (a total of 7 steps are included). Therefore, medical students can practice under detailed guidance. 3. The VR simulator focuses on the performance of each subject during tendon repair. Operations in the VR simulator are divided into practice and inspection modes. The corresponding notes for each step in the practice mode are provided; however, no notes are provided for the check mode. Before entering the exam mode for assessment, the subject will have to complete all necessary learning in practice mode. 4. Participants in the VR group must practice at least 1 hour on the PC or VR version every day.

Inclusion criteria

Senior medical students were eligible participants in this study. They were required to complete the following fundamental courses before entering the randomized control trial: (1) human anatomy; (2) physiology; (3) biochemistry; (4) pathology; (5) pathophysiology; (6) diagnostics; (7) internal medicine; (8) orthopedics; (9) surgical probation, and (10) other professional basic clinical courses.

Data collection and Management (A standard data collection and management system include a CRF and an electronic data capture:

Data were analyzed using the SPSS 23.0 (SPSS, Chicago, Illisnois, USA) software package. Differences in the objective and semi-objective measurements between the two groups were analyzed using the Mann–Whitney U test for non-parametric data. The level of agreement between the semi-objective assessments made by the two experts was estimated by Cohen’s K co-efficient. P < 0.05 was considered significant.
